Poly
Register a Poly VVX x50 or Edge E series IP phone as a desk handset or on a desk phone line.
Click Show setup link on the phone's row in Settings → Phone → Voice & calling → Calling devices (a desk handset — a person's or a shared one like the reception phone), or on the number's card in Settings → Call routing (a desk phone line). See Desk phones for the difference.
Set up by link
On the phone's web page, open Settings → Provisioning Server (on the phone: Settings → Advanced → Administration Settings → Network Configuration → Provisioning Server).
Set Server Type to HTTPS and type the setup link into Server
Address without https://. Leave the server user and password blank.
Save. The phone restarts, downloads its settings and registers; click Refresh on the card to see Handset registered.
If the phone refuses the link's security certificate, update its firmware — never switch certificate checking off, because the download carries the line's password.
Enter the settings by hand
Connect the phone to your network and power, let it boot to the home screen, then read its IP address under Menu → Settings → Status → Network → TCP/IP Parameters.
In a browser on the same network, open https://<phone-ip> and sign in
as Admin (factory password 456 — change it while you're there).
Go to Simple Setup (or Settings → Lines → Line 1) and fill in:
- SIP Server Address: the server shown under Show setup link —
sip.telnyx.eufor a UK practice,sip.telnyx.comfor a US one — port5061, transport TLS - SIP Outbound Proxy: leave empty
- Phone Display Name: your practice name
- Address, Auth User ID: the line's username
- Auth Password: the line's password
Under the line's Registration settings, set the expiry to 180
seconds if the field is exposed; the default re-registration also works.
Set SRTP, the keep-alive, DTMF and the codec order to the values in the settings every phone needs. The setup link does this for you, which is the easier route on a Poly.
Click Save. The line key on the handset turns solid once registered.
Call the number from a mobile — the handset rings. If the line is two-way, dial out to confirm outbound.
