Social images
Turn photos or a few lines of text into social-ready images, from AI smile designs, headshots and artwork to branded before & afters, review cards and notices, then approve them and post them from the composer.
Images is a gallery of templates that turn your photos, or a few lines of text, into images ready for social media. AI images use OpenAI's image models to edit a photo or create artwork. Layouts set your own photos and text in a design with your practice's name, brand colour and logo. Every image is made in the background, and nothing is posted until someone approves it.
Open Social in the main sidebar, then Images.
Who can use Images
- Layouts are free for every practice with Social. The Offer layout isn't available to practices in Italy.
- AI images are for practices in the United Kingdom and the United States with a paying Smileline subscription: active, or marked Payment past due while Stripe retries a payment. During the free trial, or on the partner free plan, the AI templates are locked: Social → Images shows AI images need an active subscription with an Open billing link. Practices in other countries don't see AI images. No add-on is needed.
| To do this | You need | Who has it |
|---|---|---|
| Create an image, approve it, retry it and delete it | Create & publish posts and ideas | Owners, managers and front desk |
| See images | View the social calendar, ideas & insights | Owners, managers, front desk and analysts |
Without permission to create posts, Social → Images shows the list of images but not the templates. See Who can do what.
The templates
AI images
| Template | You give it | You get |
|---|---|---|
| Smile design | A photo of a person | Two images: the AI simulation of a new smile on its own, and the original photo beside the simulation. Both carry the simulation label (see Privacy and consent). |
| Team headshot | A photo of a team member | A studio headshot, head and shoulders, with soft lighting and a plain, light background. The person's face, smile, hair and clothes stay as they are. |
| Clinic photo polish | A photo of your clinic | The same room with better light, colour and sharpness, straight lines and tidied clutter. It never changes, adds or removes people, and adds nothing the clinic doesn't have. |
| Seasonal art | The Occasion, such as Halloween or National Smile Month (up to 200 characters) | An illustration for the occasion, with no people in it and calm space in the middle for text. |
| Free prompt | Describe the image you want (up to 1,000 characters) | An image made from your description. It never shows a real or identifiable person, or teeth as a treatment result. |
Smile design makes images of 1080 × 1350 pixels; the other AI templates make one image of 1024 × 1280. Both are 4:5 portrait, which suits the Instagram feed and every other platform. A smile design can't be used as a photo in any other template.
Layouts
| Template | Photos | Text | What to know |

| Team spotlight | A Photo of the team member | Name, Role and an optional Fun fact | |
| Tips carousel | None | 2 to 10 slides, each with a title and optional text | Three styles: Tips, Myth or fact and Questions. Each slide is one image; the first is the cover, in your brand colour. |

| Opening hours | An optional Background photo | A Headline, the Hours and optional Text | The hours start from your first location's opening hours. |
| New service | An optional Background photo | A Headline, the Service and optional Text | |

Layouts are 1080 × 1350 pixels. They use your practice's name, and the Brand colour and Email logo from Settings → Practice details when you've set them. The few words a layout writes itself, such as Before, After, Scan to book and the results footnote, are in Italian for practices in Italy and in English everywhere else.
Make an image on the web
Open Social → Images and pick a template under AI images or Layouts.
Add the photos the template asks for and fill in its text; the ones you can leave out are marked (Optional). A layout shows a live preview as you type; when it makes several images, page through them.
If you added any photo, tick I have consent to use these photos on the practice's social media, from everyone shown in them. You can't create the image without it, and adding, replacing or removing a photo clears the tick.
For a layout, click Create. For an AI image, check what you'll get and the cost estimate, then click Generate.
The image's page opens and shows the image being made. Every image, layout or AI, is made in the background: a layout is usually ready within a minute, an AI image usually in under two minutes. You don't need to stay on the page: Smileline notifies you when the image is ready to review, or if it needs attention.
A few templates help you fill them in:
- Tips carousel starts with two slides. Add slide adds more, up to ten, and the arrows reorder them. Fill with AI writes the slides, using slide 1's title as the topic; it uses the AI assistant add-on, like AI ideas.
- Opening hours starts with the opening hours of your practice's first location, one line per group of days. For Team spotlight, pick a Team member to fill in the name and role. Edit them as you like.
- Book now can't be picked while online booking is off: its tile says Turn on your booking page first.
- In Italy, Before & after shows a caution first: Italian guidance strongly discourages before-and-after photos in health advertising.
Social → Images lists every image under the gallery, newest first, with its template, status, who started it and when.
Share photos from your phone
With the mobile app you can make an image from one or two photos in your phone's gallery.
Select one or two photos, tap Share, then choose Smileline.
Smileline shows which practice the image is for. To use another practice, tap Switch in Account and switch there.
Pick a template. With one photo you can choose Smile design, Team headshot or Clinic photo polish (AI images, where your practice can use them), or Team spotlight, which asks for the Name and Role. With two photos, you get Before & after: the first photo is the before and the second the after (Swap before and after changes them round), and you choose the style. Two slides is the carousel style.
Turn on the consent switch and tap Create image. Keep Smileline open until it finishes.
The app then opens the image and shows it being made. If the connection drops as you create it, the app sends it again when you tap Retry, come back to the app or return to that practice, and opens the image it already started, so you never get two. The phone shows no prices.
When the image is ready, a notification takes you to it. Tap Use in post to approve it, then pick the accounts under Post to (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google Business Profile), edit the caption and choose Publish now, Schedule or Add to queue. The phone posts every image the template made: a smile design's two images, or a before & after in Two slides, go into one post, which Instagram shows as a carousel, and Google Business Profile isn't offered because it takes one photo. To post only some of them, use the web. TikTok posts, deleting an image and Add text are on the web too.
Review, approve and post
When an image is ready, open it from the notification or from Social → Images. Each image it made is shown with an Include in post tick, all ticked to start with. Then:
- Use in post approves the image, the first time only, and opens the composer with the ticked images. For a smile design, the caption starts with the simulation label. Choose the accounts, then click Publish now, Schedule… or Add to queue. See Publish social posts. On Instagram, two or more images post as a carousel. A Google Business Profile post takes one photo. On TikTok, tick This is AI-generated content for an AI image.
- Download saves an image as a JPEG, for example to show a patient in a consultation. Labels and footnotes are part of the image.
- Add text puts your words on an AI image. On a Seasonal art, Free prompt or Clinic photo polish image, pick one of the layouts that take a background photo (Review card, Closure notice, Opening hours, New service, Book now or Offer); on a Team headshot, pick Team spotlight. The layout's editor opens with the image already in place. Smile designs and layouts don't offer Add text.
- Delete image deletes the image and what it made, once you confirm. Posts that already use one of its images keep it.
Only an approved image can go into a post: Smileline refuses to add an image that hasn't been approved, even if the image it came from has been deleted.
If an image needs attention, its page says why under Image paused. Retry makes it again from the same photos and text.
When the image is ready to review, or needs attention, Smileline notifies the person who last started it: whoever created it or clicked Retry. The notification appears in the bell and, on devices with push turned on, as a push notification. Both notifications are in the Reviews and feedback group of Settings → Notifications.
Costs
- Layouts are free.
- AI images are billed on your Smileline invoice as AI content: £1.80 (VAT included) or $2.00 (plus any applicable tax) for every US$1 of OpenAI usage. Each AI image is billed once, when it's ready for review; an attempt that fails isn't billed. A Retry is billed like a new image when it succeeds. On the web, an AI template's editor shows an estimate of the charge. The phone doesn't show prices.
Settings → Billing shows the AI content used so far this period, for videos and images together. See AI content.
Privacy and consent
Smile design always burns this label into both images: AI simulation – not an actual treatment result. Actual results may vary. It can't be removed. In the UK, the advertising regulator (CAP) says an AI image showing the effect of a cosmetic treatment is likely to mislead, and a label may not make it acceptable in an ad. Whether and where you post a smile design is your practice's responsibility. Never present it as a real result or pair it with a real "after" photo, and use it only with the person's written consent.
Before & after must use genuine, unretouched photos of the same patient, taken with the patient's written consent to publish them: in the UK, the explicit consent the GDC expects; in the US, a HIPAA authorisation. Actual results may vary. is printed on every before & after, as Texas requires. AI never touches these photos. In Italy, before-and-after photos in health advertising are strongly discouraged, and Smileline warns you before you make one.
Review cards must show genuine reviews. Paste the review as the patient wrote it, and show the reviewer's first name and last initial only. Never write or change a review yourself.
- Consent: the consent tick (a switch on the phone) is required whenever you add a photo, to any template. Who gave it, and when, is recorded in the Activity log.
- AI images: the photo and the text you type are sent to OpenAI to make the image.
- Layouts: Smileline draws them itself; no AI sees your photos or text.
- Text you type is kept only until the image is made. After that, the image itself is the only copy.
